about us

The Downtown Waterfront Market launched May 24, 2008. Founding community partners were the Committee of 100, which made a one-time contribution of $10,000; the Elizabeth City Area Convention and Visitors Bureau, whose Tourist Development Authority approved a request from the City of Elizabeth City to dedicate $6,000 of bed-tax revenues to the effort; and the Albemarle Economic Development Commission, which put together the business plan for the market and secured the funding from the Committee of 100 and the Tourist Development Authority. Former Mayor Steve Atkinson was the Downtown Waterfront Market's most tireless and effective advocate.
